In a relationship, you need somebody who’s going to call you out, not somebody who’s going to let everything slide. You need somebody who doesn’t want to live without you, but can. Not somebody that is dependent, but somebody who is stronger with you. A relationship is two people, not one

Poem #18 (infinity)
infinite means it has no limit
but nowadays people are quick to say
i love you to infinity & beyond
& like buzz light year
they go nowhere
just automated voices
saying emotionless promises
& i’m beginning to wonder
if infinite really does have a limit
does it only last up until the second before the first fight
when the veil of love is dropped
& the hate beneath revealed
infinity now means
two months, five hours, eighteen minutes & twenty seconds
since your first shared smile
from the opposite sides of a busy car park
but it’s not just infinity
it’s also forever & eternally
it’s a marriage vow that states
until death do us part
that ended after the first rough patch five years in
if you can’t stand permanence
build a sandcastle on the shore
& get married there
when the tide comes in
it will wash away your marriage
the salt will erode your wasted promises
& there won’t be any evidence
of something that never was to begin with
